Key Questions

Do I really need to upgrade to Windows 11?

The short answer is… probably. While there are a few instances where upgrading is not required (or recommended), for most of the business world, the answer is yes. Please see Microsoft’s article Here.

When does Windows 10 support actually end?

For most versions of Windows 10, the End of Support (EOS) is October 14th, 2025. The primary exception is Windows 10 LTSC. Windows 10 LTSC is End of Support on January 12th, 2027.

Can I change my computer to Windows 10 LTSC to prevent having to upgrade to Windows 11?

The short answer is, no. Windows 10 LTSC and the “normal” Windows 10 diverged a long time ago. While they may look the same and operate the same, they have two very different support paths and purposes.

What is Windows 10 LTSC used for?

Windows 10 LTSC (Long Term Service Branch) is primarily for devices that are very specialized. Configuration changes for these machines are so rarely needed or wanted that it is preferable to keep them as they are. Think of a specialized computer for analyzing the data from an aging medical machine. Very specific function, very specialized hardware.
